Topic - Grab every x-th video from

Do you know of any way to "grab" the frame being shown from Mplayer and manipulate it for something else (for example to send it through TCP to another machine)?

I know I can let Mplayer extract frames to .JPG but I would rather want to do this in-memory (i.e without saving to disk).

So does anyone know of an "easy" way to add this functionality to the Mplayer source code so it works both for playing video files and streams?
