Topic - suddenly opening time went from 0 seconds to 10 seconds, need help

I have used mplayer on ubuntu 9.04 for a while now, no problems whatsoever, opening up movies in basically zero seconds. Not sure what happened to it though, now it takes 10 seconds to open up a movie (no matter what format), highly annoying.

I've tried from both the file manager (nautilus) & command line, same results.

not sure what changed, is it now buffering tons before opening up or? I have no clue whats happening.

ideas, anyone?

my OS: ubuntu 9.04 / GNOME / Nautilus
